It has been a year since Ateneo SALT welcomed the first batch of interns and now, it welcomes its second batch of interns. On June 7, 2019, twelve carefully selected individuals started their respective part-time or full-time internship program for the 2019 interession.

Now on its second year, the Ateneo SALT Institute’s internship program aims to promote the development of the interns’ interpersonal, professional and educational skills. The first batch of interns achieved great accomplishments in research and marking, and have set a high standard for the incoming second batch.

The current interns are divided into two groups; the research group and the data and web group.

The research group is in charge of organizing past literature, collecting data, and writing for journals or articles. Each of the associates are assigned to a research project but is encouraged to assist with the other interns as well. The research projects include student-centered learning (Jeanne Morales, Marty Nevada, Maxine Raz, Iva Magsalin), the core curriculum data analysis (Iva Magsalin), School of Education feasibility study (Kaela Leyretana), and the SALT evaluations and reports (Christopher Go, Fiona Chan, Joyce Pua). They report to Eos Trinidad, coordinator for research at the Institute.

On the other hand, the data and web group is in charge of creating a database of Ateneo research on education and educational development, and upgrading the present website with the help of the SALT Institute’s education technology head, Galvin Ngo. The projects include developing the Research Data Bank (Terri Gan, James Cuartero), Website and Research (Nigel Yu), and the marketing materials of SALT (Karl Pepanio).

Despite having different projects, the interns all work together in one room to promote cooperation and collaboration among the team. Individuals who finish their tasks earlier than expected assist the other members.

Almost halfway through the internship program, the interns are continuously working on their respective projects and overcoming the challenges with the assistance of the SALT team. With more to come in the upcoming days, the interns are eager to grow alongside the SALT Institute and its members.
