Top Philippine universities collaborate on certificate program for teachers in the peripheries

Knowledge Channel’s Rina Lopez-Bautista has achieved something quite unheard of and undreamt of: Without even realizing it, she managed to bring the Philippines’ top five universities together to collaborate on a certificate program for teachers in the neediest areas of the country.

ASIA PACIFIC CONSORTIUM OF JESUIT SCHOOLS OF EDUCATION

Upon the initiative of the Ateneo de Manila Institute for the Science and Art of Learning and Teaching (Ateneo SALT Institute), 19 educators gathered at the Sanata Dharma University in Jogyakarta, Indonesia, from October 30 to 31, 2017, to discuss forming a consortium of Jesuit schools and faculties of education in Asia Pacific.

ASIA PACIFIC CONSORTIUM OF JESUIT SCHOOLS OF EDUCATION

Upon the initiative of the Ateneo de Manila’s SALT Institute, a total of nine Jesuit institutions involved in teacher education in the Asia-Pacific are forming a consortium of Jesuit schools of education.

The different education deans and their representatives are set to congregate at Sanata Dharma University in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, from October 30 to 31. This milestone meeting will be graciously hosted by Dr. Johanes Eka Priyatma, PhD, who is the President/Rektor of Sanata Dharma and currently the Chair of the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities in Asia Pacific (AJCU-AP).

ATENEO DE MANILA BOT APPROVES THE ATENEO SALT INSTITUTE

During its recent meeting last 05 August 2017, the Board of Trustees of the Ateneo de Manila University approved the establishment of the Ateneo SALT Institute or the Ateneo de Manila Institute for the Science and Art of Learning and Teaching). The vision and plans for the institute are the fruits of a year-long series of consultations with the university’s teacher educators and trainers in the different disciplines.
