ATENEO SALT DESIGNS GLOBAL JESUIT EDUCATION VIRTUAL COLLOQUIUM

Just recently launched was the Virtual Colloquium for Jesuit schools around the world. The Virtual Colloquium is the prelude to the international gathering of school heads and leaders that will take place in Jogjakarta, Indonesia from June 29 to July 4, 2020.

Since II Colloquium JESEDU Jogja2020 will not be able to accommodate everyone, the opportunity to join the conversation among our educators is being offered through the Virtual Colloquium on Educate Magis, the platform that the global Jesuit network of schools has been using for some time now.

Open to all teachers of Jesuit primary and secondary schools, the Virtual Colloquium provides a process of reflecting on the Jesuit mission in education in light of the Universal Apostolic Preferences.

Ateneo SALT Institute, in partnership with Educate Magis, worked on the design of this unique virtual experience. There are three modules, each one focused on one or two UAPs:

Module 1: CHOOSING PURPOSE – On “showing the way to God” (UAP 1)

Module 2: CULTIVATING DEPTH – On “accompanying the youth” (UAP 2)

Module 3: BUILDING RECONCILIATION – On “walking with the excluded” and “caring for our  common home) (UAPs 3 & 4)

One begins by watching a provocative five-minute animated video that is intended to provoke thought and talk about the context of Jesuit education today.

The participant may then choose to do any of the following as a response:

Join the Global Conversation – Participants post their reactions, reflections, questions or prayers. Posts can be easily translated from and to three languages: English, Spanish, and French. This function virtually eliminates any language barrier, making it convenient for participants to respond to one another.

Take a Poll – Participants assess themselves and their school using the Global Identifiers of a Jesuit School from the just-released document JESUIT SCHOOLS: A LIVING TRADITION.

Share a Best Practice – Participants post a photograph to share a program or practice that exemplifies one or two Global Identifier.

The video was conceptualized and designed in such a way that it would be engaging not only for teachers but for students as well.

The Virtual Colloquium will continue to be open to Ignatian educators until the end of March 2020. Teachers may join the VC individually or organize “watch parties” with their colleagues and teams.

The animation in the video was created by Ateneo SALT’s very own designer, Meg Villena, with script from Fr. Johnny Go SJ and direction by Galvin Ngo.

Ateneo SALT was honored to have worked on this global project with Educate Magis especially as a contribution from the Jesuit Pacific Conference of Asia Pacific.
